Nearly Home

A recently puchased camera has great low light capability, this trip allowed us to try it out on several occasions and the results are very pleasing. These shots were taken from the ferry as it came into Portsmouth Harbour.

Paris to Limoges by Train

Having travelled to Paris to attend an exhibition and conference (FSA) decide to go on down to the house for a few days. Quick checks showed that the airfare was around £300 from Paris to Limoges so the plan was in trouble. Had a thought that perhaps going by train could be an option so quick search on Google and found several UK sites that showed fares in the £50 - £60 range (First class), this seemed reasonable but decided to try looking on French websites. After a short while I found the SNCF site, complete with special offers! So for 31 Euros I got a first class ticket - a good result!

So for those that are interested here is the link: SNCF

The trip was very enjoyable, just over 3 hours and arrived on time! Only downside was having to get a taxi to the airport to pick up a car which cost 24 euros.

How we get there

By Air

The nearest airport is Limoges, about one hour north of us. You can get there Ryanair from Stansted (tried it once, never again) or FlyBe from Southampton.

Bergerac is another option, about 1 hour 45 minutes to the south west.

Brives airport is being developed and there are rumours of flights from England into there next year. Brive is about an hour away.

By Sea

We have used Brittany Ferries from Portmouth to Caen. Its then about 6.5 hours driving.
