Tech (ADSL...)Latest WeatherSome of you will have noticed that the weather information below has stopped updating. This appears to be due to a power cut for around an hour that caused the PC to shut itself down when the battery backup system sent it the signal that the battery was nearly flat. It now appears that when the system shuts down in this way it won't wake itself up again!
So we will have to experiment with this on the next visit.

Power down....Some of the more eagle eyed of readers may have noticed that the weather data hadn't changed since late morning on the 31st October. It turned out that there was a power cut and the backup power supply automatically shut the computer down.

What then didn't happen was the automatic power-on the following morning! So after some head scratching realised I had enabled "Wake On Lan" on the computer. This is the facility to send a special Ethernet message to the computer that switches it on. So tonight I worked out how to send and it powered on! So hopefully the weather service is back in business.
Weather Friday 24 August 2007Since we left last Friday we have been told it hasn't stopped raining in our part of the Dordogne. Today we managed to communicate with the weather station and it is showing just under 65mm of rain in the past week! ![]()
Making some progress with being able to communicate regularly with the weather station so we may yet be able to get live weather on the site!
Almost Live weather data....Progress is being made on linking to the remote weather station at the house. Still some gremlins to iron out but got this data earlier today:

Live CCTV ImagesRegistered users on the site can now directly access the CCTV cameras! Log on and a new CCTV menu will appear on the right hand side of the screen.
Weather data sample...Having got the hardware working today have had a little time to play with the software. The weather station comes with "Heavy Weather" software 2.0 beta release and this keeps hanging after a few minutes. So have downloaded and am now trying "Weather Display" and so far so good. Having just typed that it closed itself down, but is working again now, I did close a lot of windows so it may have been user error..... Anyway it might not be the weather in France (yet) but here is a screen-shot of data gathered remotely from a wireless laptop connected to the house network:

The windvane and rain gauge aren't connected! Software still running ok...... fingers crossed!
